In-house Training

We offer a comprehensive in-house HR training solution to organisations across the UK. We offer courses on a wide range of topics and varying session length, which have been specifically created to help to support Line Managers working within the voluntary and community sector. 

All of our courses can be delivered as a refresher, half day or full day training session. The training can also be tailored specifically to meet the needs of your organisation and based upon its own policies and procedures.
  • Refresher: For Senior Managers and Directors who have an understanding of the topic, but require a session to re-confirm their knowledge, discover new ideas and have the opportunity to questions an experienced professional
  • Half Day: Provides Supervisors and Managers with a basic introduction to a topic. These is an opportunity for discussion
  • Full Day: This allows delegates to participate fully in learning by undertaking some practical exercises. These sessions are ideal for those who need to put into practice what they learn.
For your convenience we are able to offer our training courses at your premises. Alternatively, you are welcome to use our fully equipped training room at our offices in Horsham, West Sussex.

Half/Full Day Courses

Handling Problem Staff – what the law says
Know the basic employment law requirements when handling a range of common staffing problems including: absenteeism, incapability and disciplinary problems. The session includes the main requirements of the Disputes Resolution Regulations.

Stress at work
Find out what employers can do to avoid problems of stress at work and the possibility of claims, including legal requirements, advice given by the Health and Safety Executive and practical steps you can put into place to avoid problems.

How to supervise and appraise staff effectively

Learn how the skills of effective supervision and appraisal so as to prevent performance problems, aid motivation and assist succession planning. This is for managers and supervisors to understand the key skills and processes involved in giving constructive feedback, listening and asking the right questions.

Employment law for line managers

Gain a basic understanding of the key requirements to help you distinguish between ‘law’ and ‘lore.’ This session covers: employment contracts and how to amend them, dismissals, entitlements to time off and discrimination law. This includes a highly useful and extensive ‘Question & Answer’ session.

Managing Absence

Learn how to identify absence problems, assist with monitoring absenteeism and put together a comprehensive strategy for increasing attendance. This is ideal for organisations with absence problems and can be delivered as part of an overall strategy to improve attendance.

Understand your role as a supervisor and practice a number of basic supervisory skills, including: problem solving, time management techniques, listening skills, giving and receiving feedback, running a meeting effectively and effective questioning. For maximum benefit to your organisation, this course should be run over one or two days and is designed for first time supervisors or those with little formal supervisory training.

Understand your role as a manager and practice a number of basic management skills, including: effective interviewing and listening skills, negotiation skills, problem solving techniques, effective delegation, giving and receiving feedback, dealing with problem performance and planning change. For maximum benefit to your organisation, this course should be run over one or two days and is designed for first time managers or those with little formal management training.

Health & Safety Risk Assessments workshop

Delegates will acquire knowledge of the legislative requirements surrounding Health and Safety, as well as acquire some practical skills. The course can be delivered in the workplace and involves working through actual risk assessments.

Recruitment and Selection

This session looks at how to: define the skills, experience and qualities you are looking for and know how to test for these and will include examples of effective interview questions and how to construct straightforward ‘home made’ tests. This course will improve your recruitment success rate and helps to remove the risks involved in recruitment. 

Manual Handling

Back problems can lead to long term absence and significant insurance claims. This is an essential course for anyone involved whose work involves manual handling.

An introduction to Health & Safety

A one-day course for managers and supervisors who need an introduction to the main legislative requirements regarding Health and Safety. The course provides delegates with a good understanding of what they can do to prevent accidents in their area of control.

Fire Risk Assessments

As employers are now expected to carry out their own fire risk assessment this one-day course will explain the legislative background, theory and practice, and gives delegates the opportunity to conduct a real fire risk assessment.

Ladder Safety (2 hour)

Falls from heights remain one of the greatest causes of accidents at work. This course will show delegates how to use ladders safely.
